The Broadband Multimedia Marketing Association (BMMA): Elevating Opportunities in the ‘Mile High City’

 

The tagline for the Broadband Multimedia Marketing Association (BMMA) – an industry group focused on the marketing of broadband and smart home services – is ‘Advancing Broadband Together.’ The organization also strives to provide its members with information about industry trends, market conditions, and the challenges faced by communications service providers (CSPs) across North America. This is done through monthly webinars and twice-yearly face-to-face events.

The BMMA Fall Workshop, the second event of 2019, was hosted by CenturyLink between September 24–26. (Many past events have been hosted by CSP members. The 2018 Fall Workshop was hosted by Cincinnati Bell, with TDS, Frontier, and TELUS having hosted events in previous years.)

Calix has been involved with the BMMA for more than 10 years and remains dedicated to developing strong partnerships within the telecommunications industry by supporting groups like the BMMA that provide a forum for CSPs to discuss relevant issues. Our objective is to play a leadership role in the group, to contribute where appropriate, and to learn as much as possible about the opportunities presented (and the challenges faced) to the CSP members, which include:

The event took place in Denver, nicknamed the ‘Mile High City’ because its official elevation is exactly one mile above sea level, and began with an insightful Keynote Address from Dane Folster, vice president of consumer marketing at CenturyLink. Dane shared his thoughts on how CSPs can remain competitive in the future. This was followed by a tour of the CenturyLink lab in Littleton, where CenturyLink tests the various hardware and software solutions found within its network.

As usual, the rest of the agenda featured open, lively, value-filled discussions on a range of topics. For more information, a copy of the event agenda is available online.

The event also featured amazing networking opportunities, including two receptions, daily group lunches and dinners, and a short group activity.

The next BMMA event will take place at the Sheraton Grand Nashville, from March 23–27, 2020. In the meantime, CSPs that want to learn more are invited to join one of the monthly web-based conference calls called ‘Hot Topic Calls.’ The October 16 call is presented jointly with another industry group, Customer Experience & Telco Sales (CETS), and will feature representatives from Cincinnati Bell and Frontier discussing ‘Sales Incentives.’ If you are interested in joining this call, please contact Lauren Roux.
